Pennsylvania Turnpike/Interstate 95 Interchange Project
Open Houses Summary

Tuesday, June 5, 2007 and Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Two open houses were held to provide the public with the opportunity to view design section drawings, meet the PTC project team, have questions answered, and comment on the project. Approximately 70 people attended the Bensalem Township Open House on Tuesday, June 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 at Twining Hall located in the Trevose Fire Company, 4900 East Street Road in Trevose. Approximately 175 people attended the Middletown and Bristol Townships Open House on Wednesday, June 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bristol Senior Center, 2501 Bath Road in Bristol.

The dates of the open houses were publicized through the project newsletter, project website and local newspapers. A project newsletter with an article highlighting the open houses was sent to the entire project mailing list of approximately 4,000 addresses, including local townships and elected officials. Postcards advertising the open houses were sent to the approximately 650 people living adjacent to the project area who received letters requesting access to their property during the design process. In addition, date and location information was displayed on the project website homepage and advertisements appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer (Bucks County section) and Bucks County Courier Times. Press releases were also sent to local papers.

Displays at both open houses included design section drawings (with noise wall location and property acquisition data shown), lighting and signing information, environmental mitigation progress, anticipated construction schedule and a 3-D video simulation of the completed interchange. Project team member were available to address questions. Attendees were encouraged to write their comments on prepared comment cards or mail them in to the project office at a later date. Seventeen comments were received at the open houses and several more were mailed into the project office. The comments included funding, noise wall, detour, traffic, environmental, and property acquisition concerns. There were also several requests made to place the drawings displayed on the project website.
